We take a brief look at the very young Android Tablet savior -- the Motorola XOOM
Motorola's XOOM tablet computer looks to be a terrific device – from what we can tell so far. That's because the device is SO new that not every feature is ready at the moment. But we can tell a lot from what we have so far.
The XOOM measures 9.8 by 6.6 by hand an inch and weighs nearly 26 ounces. Most of that weight is the built-in battery.
XOOM has a 10.1-inch touchscreen (1280 by 800 resolution), a 1.2 GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM (so far that sounds like a big screen version of Motorola's Atrix 4G), there's a 5 megapixel (with flash) camera on the back and a 2 megapixel camera on the front, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, stereo speakers on the back. Most importantly XOOM is the first product to be released that runs the next version of Android – 3.0 – nicknamed Honeycomb. Google says Honeycomb is designed for tablet computing but I', pretty sure that many of Honeycomb's new features will soon make their way into upcoming versions of Android for smartphones.
